Research Assistant at Waterpower Lab job with NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY – NTNU

About the position

In the Department of Energy and Process Engineering, we have a vacancy for a Research Assistant position (100% full-time) with start date August 1, 2022.

The Department carries out training and research in the entire field of energy and currently has around 50 permanent scientists and 100 doctoral students. There are 15 administrative staff and 20 technical staff. The department has experienced significant growth in recent years. The focus is on external projects and the project portfolio is large. We carry out research on the entire energy value chain, from the energy source to the end users. The Department has a good working environment, and all employees are responsible for maintaining and contributing to it.

Job duties

  • Responsibilities for the training of project and master’s students in the operation of the Hydroelectricity laboratory test benches.
  • Responsibilities in assisting with laboratory experiments and training exercises in TEP 4195 Turbomachinery, TEP 4200 Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Hydraulic Machinery and TEP 4175 Wind Turbine Design.
  • Correction of exam papers in Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics.
  • Supervision during training exercises in TEP 4100/TEP 4110 Mechanics of fluids.

In addition, the candidate must be prepared to participate in two excursions, one in Norway and one abroad. Changes to the duties of the position are to be expected, depending on the needs of the Department.

Selection criteria required

  • Master’s level training for a study program in Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Recent graduate or at the start of a career.
  • Good English skills, both written and spoken.

The position of research assistant must give you the opportunity to have an overview of the work and the scientific or artistic method. The missions are of an academic level and must consist of scientific or artistic assistance.

The appointment must be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning state employees and civil servants and the national guidelines for the appointment as doctor, post-doctoral fellow and research assistant.

Preferred Selection Criteria

  • Experience of NTNU in general and the laboratory of the Department of Energy and Process and Hydropower Engineering in particular.

Salary and conditions

Research assistants are paid under code 1020 according to their skills and are normally paid at the gross rate of NOK 407,500 per year before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority.

The position is for a two-year term.

The engagement must be carried out in accordance with the regulations in force concerning employees and civil servants of the State and the laws relating to the control of the export of strategic goods, services and technologies. Candidates who, after evaluation of the application and attachment, are found to conflict with the criteria of the latter Act will be barred from recruitment at NTNU.
